How it really went

Read the real storyRevere's own account, letter to Jeremy Belknap (Massachusetts Historical Society)
  1. The Saturday before, the transports' boats are launched and the grenadiers taken off duty
  2. Sunday: Revere warns Hancock and Adams, and agrees a lantern signal with Charlestown
  3. Tuesday, about 10 pm: Dr. Warren sends Dawes by land and Revere by water
  4. Two lanterns in the North Church steeple tell Charlestown: by water
  5. Two friends row Revere past HMS Somerset under a rising moon
  6. Deacon Larkin's horse; two officers dodged near Charlestown Neck
  7. Medford: he wakes the captain of the minute men, then almost every house to Lexington
  8. Lexington about midnight; Dawes arrives half an hour later
  9. Dr. Samuel Prescott joins them for Concord
  10. A patrol takes Revere near Lincoln; Prescott jumps a wall and reaches Concord
  11. Released without his horse, Revere carries Hancock's trunk as the shooting starts

What we changed

  • Two riders, one mapToggle Revere and Dawes on an engraved map of Middlesex. Same news, same night; only one road lights up with captains woken.
  • The lanterns are a switchFlip the North Church steeple between one lantern and two, and read what each one told Charlestown. Spoiler: not Revere. He was in the boat.
  • Waiting has a priceDrag the hour you forward the alarm and watch the next town's warning before sunrise on Lexington Green shrink, half hour by half hour.
  • The deck forwards itselfThe close is one button. Each press stamps the next town on the routing slip, from Charlestown until all of Middlesex is up.

Steal the structure

Build your champion deck like Paul Revere did.

  1. 01 Cover with routing slip Name the change and the ask in one line, and show who has already forwarded it.
  2. 02 If you read one slide The summary your champion can forward alone: what, where, who is at risk, and what we need from the reader.
  3. 03 Why change Dated evidence the champion can repeat in the room, ending on what is happening now.
  4. 04 Why now The trigger that makes this week different, shown as the signal everyone can see.
  5. 05 Why us Against the alternative, side by side: same inputs, different outcome, and the reason.
  6. 06 How it spreads The proof: how the result compounds once each person passes it on.
  7. 07 Objections answered The four questions the champion will be asked without you, each with a one-line answer and its evidence.
  8. 08 Cost of waiting What each week of delay costs, as something the reader can drag and feel.
  9. 09 Mutual action plan Dated steps with owners on both sides, with the reader's own step left open.
  10. 10 The ask One action: forward it to the next decision-maker.
